Texas: Most fatal 18-wheeler accidents in recent study

A study released on March 12, 2007 revealed Texas is number one in deadly 18-wheeler , diesel truck, semi truck, big rig and tractor trailer accidents.  As such, Texan drivers have many reasons to feel nervous about sharing the road with these big rigs.

With all of the 18-wheeler accidents throughout the state, it’s not surprising to find to find lawyers on billboards advertising alongside the I-45 freeway.

They’re looking for clients who have been involved in accidents with 18 wheelers.

“At any given time, on average, we have out 30 cases involving trucking cases,” said one Houston attorney.

In reviewing the numbers, it is clearly evident that Texas is the leader in deadly big rig accidents.

In comparing the most populated states like New York and Illinois, they are outdone by Florida and California.

But Texas, on average, had at least 100 more fatal 18-wheeler accidents a year than whatever state is placed second in the poll.

It’s clear that Texans do not want to share the roadways with speeding and fatigued truck drivers - and rightfully so.

On March 12, 2007, the Truck Safety Coalition released the reports which showed we are indeed sharing the roads with dangerous big rig drivers who are tired and speeding to make their deadlines.

Truck drivers defend their position by stating that they have little choice but to speed and eat at the wheel because the trucking companies for whom they work set deadlines that cannot be met any other way.

More often than not it's the smaller trucking companies who fail to maintain trucks or do the required bookkeeping.  In some situations, the driver is also the owner of the trucking company.
